Outrig’s Indio CA, Location Spotlight: RV Trips to Joshua Tree, the Salton Sea and More
December 23, 2025

The Coachella Valley was made for RV life. Big desert skies, world-famous events, national parks within an easy drive and a travel season that hits its stride right when the rest of the country is digging out of the snow. Outrig RV, Boat & Commercial Storage Indio puts your rig right in the middle of it.
You'll find us at 84350 Cabazon Road, just off Interstate 10, with quick access to Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert and Palm Springs. Pick up your RV in the morning and you can be on the trail at Joshua Tree, casting a line at Lake Cahuilla or watching the sun set over the Salton Sea by afternoon.
Storage Built for the Desert
Desert heat is tough on RVs and boats. Roofs, seals, tires and batteries all take a beating when temperatures climb. That's why every space at Outrig Indio is a fully enclosed unit with an insulated roof designed to help reduce heat transfer.
- Fully enclosed units with concrete floors
- Oversized 12-by-14-foot roll-up doors
- 15-amp power and tenant-controlled locks
- Wide drive aisles built for big rigs
- Secure gated access with modern security systems
Units run from about 14 feet wide to more than 70 feet deep, with popular sizes like 14x50, 18x68 and 22x50. That's room for everything from a travel trailer to a Class A motorhome. See available sizes for RV and boat storage in Indio.

Get Out and Explore: Recreation Near Outrig Indio
Joshua Tree National Park
Most visitors enter Joshua Tree from the north. From Outrig Indio, the south entrance at Cottonwood is your shortcut, just east on I-10. You'll start in the low Colorado Desert, pass the Cholla Cactus Garden and climb into the Joshua tree forests the park is named for. Campsites inside the park are limited and fill fast in peak season, so check the National Park Service site before you roll out.
Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park
About six miles southeast of Old Town La Quinta, this 710-acre county park sits right at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Fish the lake, hike the trails into the foothills or stay the night. The RV campground has sites with power and water plus a dump station. One tip from the locals: bring your fishing license with you, because it isn't sold at the park. Details are on the Riverside County Parks site.
Salton Sea State Recreation Area
Sitting 236 feet below sea level, the Salton Sea is one of the most unusual places in California. Lower water levels and rising salinity have changed what the sea is known for, and today it's a destination for birdwatching, photography and wide-open desert sunsets. The Headquarters Campground offers full-hookup RV sites and takes reservations through California State Parks.
Painted Canyon and the Mecca Hills
Just past Mecca, the Mecca Hills Wilderness is home to Painted Canyon and the Ladder Canyon trail, a slot-canyon hike with fixed ladders and layers of colorful rock. Go early, bring plenty of water and skip it in the summer heat. The access road is dirt, so leave the big rig parked at Outrig and take the tow vehicle.
Closer to Town
- Palm Springs Aerial Tramway: ride up to Mountain Station in the San Jacinto Mountains, where it's often much cooler than the valley floor.
- Indian Canyons: palm oasis hikes and waterfalls on the ancestral lands of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
- The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens: desert wildlife and gardens in Palm Desert.
- Old Town La Quinta: shopping, dining and a walkable village to round out the day.
Plan Your Coachella Valley Season
Peak travel season runs roughly October through April, when days are warm and nights are cool. A few dates worth planning around:
- January: The American Express PGA Tour event in La Quinta
- February: Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival in Indio
- March: BNP Paribas Open tennis at Indian Wells
- April: Coachella and Stagecoach at the Empire Polo Club, just minutes from Outrig Indio
Summer is a different story. When temperatures climb past 100 degrees, an enclosed, insulated unit keeps your rig out of the worst of the heat until the next season rolls around.
Storage for Contractors and Businesses
Outrig Indio isn't just for weekend adventures. Our oversized enclosed units work for contractors, event companies, landscapers and fleet operators across the Coachella Valley, with month-to-month terms and drive-up access. Learn more about commercial storage at Outrig.
